While the State has simply noted the abandonment of the Cycling Plan, the Ile-de-France region will maintain all its investments, including the development of new cycle paths and the bonus for the purchase of a bicycle (electric, folding or cargo).
In short:
- Valérie Précresse, president of the Île-de-France region, confirmed the maintenance of subsidies for cycling infrastructure.
- The VIF (Vélo Île-de-France) network will continue its deployment in 2025.
- The region’s aid for the purchase of a new or reconditioned muscle, electric, cargo, folding bike remains valid in 2025.
On December 5, in the chamber of the Île-de-France regional council, Valérie Pécresse, president of the region, declared: « Despite the confiscation of the budget by the State, we will continue to finance cycling infrastructure, to set an example. » Strong words to reassure both local elected officials and also the pro-cycling associations present that day.
The development of the VIF network (Vélo Île-de-France network) will therefore continue in 2025. This network will ultimately include 750 km of direct, continuous and secure cycle paths to connect the major hubs of the region. This project in phase 1 is obviously a little late since the progress of this first phase is only 61% while this phase is supposed to be finalized in 2025. The second phase will be finalized in 2030.
The region had voted for a budget of 300 million euros in 2020.
According to a regional official cited by Olivier Razemon, a journalist specializing in mobility and transport, elected officials from the Ile-de-France region, of all political stripes, understood that the development of cycling was electorally « bankable ». Grégoire de Lasteyrie, vice-president in charge of transport, even admits that “cycling helps relieve public transport congestion » and makes the city more livable.
Aid for the purchase of bicycles maintained
Consequently, the Île-de-France region should maintain aid for the purchase of a bicycle throughout 2025. The contribution of Île-de-France Mobilités is 50% of the purchase price of the bicycle . Here is the assistance still offered by the region:
- Up to €400 in aid for bicycles electric assistancebicycles foldingbikes charges sans assistance,
- Up to €600 in aid for bicycles cargo ships with electric assistance
- Up to €200 in aid for electrification kits installed by a professional
- Up to €100 in aid for mechanical bikes (reserved for 15-25 year olds)
- Up to €1,200 in aid for adapted bikesfor people who cannot ride a classic bike.
Finally, important clarification, this aid also concerns reconditioned bicycles purchased from a professional. You can find reconditioned electric bikes at Upway, Loewi, Rutile, reconditioned muscle bikes at Mint Bikes, Tuvalum or Zyclora, but also at major brands like Decathlon which offers a “second life” section with both electric bikes and bicycles. muscles.
Remember that state aid for the purchase of a bicycle is no longer valid since December 2, 2024. Bicycles ordered before December 2 or whose rental contract with purchase option was signed before this date can still receive the bonus until February 14, 2025.
