In Chastreix-Sancy, in Puy-de-Dôme, the snow is present, but the ski resort has still not reopened its doors. A farmer recently purchased land in the town. He categorically refuses to grant a right of passage, essential for ski or snowshoe trips.
A petition has been launched. Nearly 6,000 signatures were collected. Common ground has been difficult to find since last March. This farming couple bought 109 hectares of mountain. The mayor, Michel Babut, is disappointed. “There is no more access to the mountain“, assures the councilor at the microphone of RTL. “We have no other paths, no other choices”.
Sled dog rides are also impossible. Dominique has been a musher for twenty years. “It drives me crazy. I only think about that“, he underlines. This situation risks jeopardizing his activities. For their part, the couple of farmers, who live in Lozère, about a hundred kilometers away, assure that they are within their rights.
“They would like everything for free. Me, they didn’t give me the mountain, I paid for it“, assures a member of the couple, interviewed by RTL. Today, the dialogue is broken. The file is in the hands of the Puy-de-Dôme prefecture in the hope of finally finding common ground.
