The arrival of RER OF marks a further step in the modernisation in progress on this line used every day by more than 630,000 travelers. This new equipment will make it possible to improve user comfort and transport more passengers. It embodies the desire of Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) to invest massively (3.75 billion euros) to modernize all equipment.
The deployment of the RER NG on theline D, the longest in Île-de-France (194 kilometers), is part of the continuity of the program of renewal railway rolling stock already started by the arrival of the 360 “Franciliens” trains, the Régio 2N, as well as the “short” RER NG on line E.
148 RER NG trainsets eventually
This project is carried out jointly by Île-de-France Mobilités, organizing authority for transport in the Ile-de-France region, SNCF Réseau, manager of the national rail network (RFN), Alstom, manufacturer of the RER NG, Transilien SNCF Voyageurs, operator of the RER D line, and the SNCF Voyageurs Equipment Department.
The arrival of the RER NG required a major adaptation of the railway infrastructure carried out over four years. This work, which represented a real challenge for SNCF Réseau, will continue in 2025 on the Melun branch. This deployment will be gradual with, to begin with, two operational trains for service exclusively during off-peak hours.
The number of trainsets will then increase at the rate of deliveries until reaching, by the end of 2025, a operational fleet of 32 trainsets and widespread circulation throughout the day. During this phase, the RER NG will run exclusively on the Creil-Corbeil-Essonnes axis before also being deployed on the Melun branch in 2026. Ultimately, 148 RER NG trains will use line D.
