Dakar, Dec 26 (APS) – Senegalese international from Everton (England) Iliman Ndiaye scored his third goal of the season against Manchester City on Thursday during the 18th day of the Premier League.
Silent since the fifth day, during the draw against Leicester, Iliman Ndiaye chose his day well to finally find the net again.
It was in fact on the occasion of the famous Boxing Day, this English specialty of having football teams play on Boxing Day, a public holiday in England, that he returned to scoring goals.
This tradition dates back to 1888, the year of the creation of the First Division replaced by the Premier League in 1992.
This year, Boxing Day coincides with the 18th day. Everton, traveling to the Etihad Stadium, held off a Manchester City in crisis.
The 24-year-old Senegalese equalized for his team in the 36th minute on a serve from his teammate, the Englishman Ashley Young. Everton had been leading since the 14th minute, thanks to a goal from Portuguese Bernardo Silva.
Iliman Ndiaye's goal allowed Everton (15th) to keep their three-match unbeaten streak, but above all to secure a third draw against the big teams of the Premier League.
The Everton Toffees held Arsenal (0-0) away and Chelsea (0-0) at home to a draw.
Ndiaye scored his third Premier League goal, his fourth in all competitions.
His national team and club teammate, Idrissa Gana Gueye took part in the meeting. He started and played the entire match.
Their compatriot from Crystal Palace (16th), Ismaila Sarr, experienced the same result, his team having drawn against Bournemouth (0-0). Sarr, scorer in the last two matches, was unable to continue his good momentum.
The other Senegalese players in the English championship, Pape Matar Sarr (Tottenham) and Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea), have had mixed fortunes.
Sarr lost to Nottingham Forest (0-1). The Spurs (11th) recorded a second loss in a row, after that against Liverpool (3-6), leader of the Premier League.
Jackson and Chelsea experienced the same misfortune against Fulham (1-2). The Blues, who had led since the 16th minute with a goal from the Englishman Cole Palmer, lost their advantage in the 82nd minute, with a goal from the Welshman Harry Wilson (1-1).
It was in the last minutes of added time (95th) that the Brazilian Rodrigo Muniz will offer an unexpected victory to his team.
Second-placed Chelsea are now four points behind Liverpool, who have two games in hand.
