Renfe is gaining ground on French rail. Since its arrival in France a year ago, the Spanish railway company has attracted more and more travelers. The Spanish railway company intends to continue its growth in France by multiplying the number of trains by four circulating every day, increasing from four to sixteen. The SNCF competitor also intends to launch new lines with, now, trains between Barcelona and Toulouse. The European Union rail agency has granted Renfe a safety certificate, reports Independent.
This new cross-border line will begin to be operated from the beginning of April 2025. The company still needs to train its drivers and staff. “This launch will allow Renfe to consolidate its position as the leading operator of cross-border connections between Spain and France with its trains. From spring, Renfe will offer six daily frequencies, three in each direction, connecting 17 cities in the two countries on a direct route. explained Renfe in a press release, Monday December 23. Perpignan and Narbonne will be served on the French side. Barcelona, Girona, and Figueres on the Spanish side.

The company also wants to set up exclusively French lines, with routes Paris-Lyon et Paris-Lyon-Marseille. Renfe wants to reach one million travelers next year. It is possible to buy tickets from the Spanish railway company on its websites and apps, but also through independent online travel agencies.
