The atmosphere of Noël which reigns in the city center of Mans is not just for children.
This Monday, December 23, elderly people of residence The market gardeners were able to benefit from illuminationsthanks to a collaboration with a association : “Happy Cyclette”. Two scootersone of which can accommodate a wheelchair, roamed the streets at nightfall (video below).
An association founded a year earlier
With his partner, Claire Baptiste, “we set up this association a year ago”, explains Martin Cauchois, head of Happy Cyclette “which aims to bring out elderly people or people with reduced mobility, or even both”.
On the program for this outing: head to rue des Minimes and its electric garlands, the market, Place de la République, the store windows, without forgetting the photo exhibition in front of the Hôtel du Département…
An average age of 95 years
“It’s very good,” comments Marcel, in front of the Christmas tree ride. He is one of three passengers, with an average age of 95, to take advantage of this excursion. “It at least shows that the city is a little lively all the same. »
Aside from the illuminations, Happy Cyclette also takes retirees to the city's parks, including Gué de Maulny.
At the Les Maraîchers retirement residence, out of around a hundred residents, around thirty have already been able to take part in these cycling escapades.
