Over the years, the city of Metz (Moselle) has been transformed by welcoming the Mettis, by removing open-air car parks or even by pedestrianizing certain streets.
We offer you a little visual flashback. Thanks to Google Street Viewheading towards the year 2008 ! And you will see, the difference is striking with today*.
Republic Square
If today the Republic Square hosts the Christmas market or the Mirabelle funfair, it was formerly a huge open-air parking lot until its final closure in 2009.
Also, the surroundings of the square were still traffic lanes for cars.
King George Square
At that time, the King George Square did not yet welcome the Mettis. The two high level of service (BHNS) bus lines were launched in October 2013 after major development work.
Place Mazelle
Today, the place Mazelle hosts fountains, trees, and offers ample space for pedestrians. But in 2008, this is not the case: Place Mazelle was a huge roundabout and provided parking for vehicles.
Middle Bridge
No, you are not dreaming: in 2008, the Middle Bridge was smaller. During 2012 and 2013, work enlargement and of redevelopment were carried out. But the site guaranteed an identical reproduction of the façade of the Middle Pont.
Today, this infrastructure which spans the Moselle accommodates buses, Mettis and cars.
Station forecourt
The face of Metz station does not change, but its surroundings do. The square has been redeveloped since 2008 and now accommodates buses and Mettis.
Center Pompidou-Metz
In 2008, the Muse shopping center did not exist and the Pompidou-Metz center was under construction before being inaugurated in 2010 with the presence of Nicolas Sarkozy, then President of the Republic.
Rue Serpenoise
Since 2008, rue Serpenoise has been transformed. The main artery of the city center, it now has new paving stones and will soon welcome the Serpentine. This vast redevelopment project will be completed in the summer of 2025.
