The 12th of the conference “Morocco-Portugal, shared history and heritage” will take place on December 26 and 27 in El Jadida, at the initiative of the Center for Studies and Research on Moroccan-Lusitanian Heritage, under the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication.
Placed under the theme “Mazagan world heritage 20 years later: achievements and expectations”, this conference celebrates the 20th anniversary of the inscription of the Mazagan fortress on the world heritage list, indicate the organizers in a press release, noting that this event will see the participation of Moroccan and foreign experts.
This event will focus on the presentation of the Mazagan/El Jadida fortress, with its history, its heritage and its state of conservation, said the same source, adding that the 1972 Convention and its implementation guidelines (principles, advantages, requirements) will also be on the menu of this conference.
A reminder will also be made of the operations already carried out and those in progress around this property, adds the same source.
The conference also includes a photo exhibition, the organization of an artistic workshop for young people and a traditional artistic show, as well as a conference visit to the Portuguese city and the 10th century heritage of El Jadida.
This edition is organized jointly by the Directorate of Cultural Heritage and the Urban Agency of Al Jadida/Sidi Bennour, in collaboration with the Provincial Directorate of Culture and ICOMOS-Morocco, the press release also said.
The Center for Studies and Research on Moroccan-Lusitanian Heritage is part of the network of centers specializing in heritage, under the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, and all are located outside of Rabat. This center is dedicated to the study of Moroccan-Portuguese heritage, whether tangible or intangible, throughout the national territory, while also being interested in Moroccan-Islamic heritage in Portugal.
