Paris beat its historic rain record in 2024. Here are three applications to avoid being surprised by yet another downpour.
Gray skies, black clouds and constant rain. This is the daily life of Parisians in 2024. So much so that the capital has broke his record history of the rainiest year.
The cumulative rainfall, still provisional, amounts in 2024 to 900.9 millimeters throughout the year, or 40% more than the average. The previous record was set in 2000, with 901mm of rain recorded.
Enough to annoy many Parisians, who more than once found themselves with their noses outside, without any umbrella to save them. Although weather phenomena are sometimes difficult to understand, there are still some applications that will help you anticipate the weather and potential precipitation.
1 – AccuWeather
With AccuWeather, a sudden downpour will no longer surprise you. The application, compatible iOS and Android offers a wide range of features to monitor changing weather conditions on a daily basis. On the program, information such as the current and felt temperature, wind speed and even air quality.
The “MinutCast” functionality above all allows Internet users to consult minute-by-minute forecasts for the next two hours. The application also provides real-time precipitation alerts (based on your geographic area) and allergy alerts in the event of the presence of dust or grass.
The application also offers a series of interactive maps (weather radar) to follow precipitation live, whether in France or abroad.
Available on Android and iOS.
2 – WeatherPro
It is one of the best-known applications for weather forecasts, and it is currently number 1 on the App Store in the “Weather” category: WeatherPro.
The design is relatively simple, but this free application lets you know how soon rain will arrive in your city. In the event of imminent rain, the application sends you an alert, at least 60 minutes before the arrival of bad weather.
It also offers a weather radar which allows you to consult the precipitation of the last hour and to visualize that forecast for the hour to come. Enough to calmly anticipate the arrival of the next showers.
If the application is free for Android, iPhone owners will have to pay 99 euro cents to obtain it. iOS users can also turn to RainToday, a 100% free application developed by the same company, which offers substantially similar functionality, but a little less precise.
Available on Android and iOS.
3 – Apple's “Weather” application (formerly Dark Sky)
If the Dark Sky application was relegated to the closet in January 2023, it is to be better integrated into Apple's “Weather” forecasting tool, offered on the iOS operating system. Proof of a certain reliability in the field of weather, the application is rated 4.7 stars on the App Store.
In the map tab at the bottom left of the application, users can follow the evolution of precipitation live via a map, minute by minute, and anticipate their developments. As on AccuWeather, it is possible to receive alerts in the event of rain or snow.
The app is only available on iOS. However, Android users can find Dark Sky data through other weather apps like Carrot Weather or Hyperlocal Meteo.
Available only on iOS.
