With the end-of-year holidays, the emergency rooms of the Saint-Jean polyclinic in Cagnes-sur-Mer expect to receive more patients. The workforce has been increased to be able to cope with the peak of activity.

Caregivers must welcome flu patients, but also injured people in a festive context.

“We all have domestic accidents linked to cooking, opening oysters, wounds on the hands, blockages which can traumatize the eye or the face…”, explains Charline Picatto, emergency doctor at the microphone of BFM Côte d’Azur. She also cites “the people who are verbalized who can sometimes be very aggressive, other times very friendly and funny”.

Longer waiting times despite everything

On average, this emergency service receives up to 80 visits every day. But during the end-of-year holidays, this figure can rise to 140 people. The usual numbers were maintained and even increased.

“There is a 24-hour emergency doctor, a backup emergency doctor with a time slot depending on the remaining activity, to help his colleague, and a pediatrician during the day. There will be five nurses. It's really a close-knit team. emergencies so they will face this holiday season”, adds Carine Noury, nurse manager of the polyclinic's emergency services.

Despite these reinforcements, waiting times may be extended. The service therefore uses a system for displaying the priority interventions supported.

“When we have more serious pathologies, it requires greater care with more medical teams and more time, which will lengthen the waiting times for the patients who arrive. It is important to tell them that we will take good care of them but that we also have a lot of work on the other side of the door,” explains Juliette Belliard, communications manager for the establishment.

To reduce the saturation of the service, the polyclinic reminds that in the event of a non-urgent health problem, it is better to make an appointment with your doctor.
