Quebec announces that it reached an agreement in principle on Monday with employees of early childhood centers (CPE) represented by two unions affiliated with the Fédération des Travailleurs du Québec (FTQ).
“This agreement, lasting five years (2023-2028), targets more than 730 people working in CPE,” jointly indicated the President of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, and the Minister of Families, Suzanne Roy, by press release.
This agreement in principle “will promote better access to services for parents and their children, it will make it possible to promote staff, to offer greater support to educators and to lighten their workload”.
According to Quebec, this new agreement will improve “staff attraction and retention”.
For their part, the two unions associated with the FTQ, the Quebec Union of Service Employees (SQEES) and the Steelworkers Union, praised the efforts of their members to have achieved this end.
“The mobilization of our members, particularly during three days of strike, allowed significant progress at the negotiating table. On the eve of the holiday season, we are happy to have reached an agreement in principle,” mentioned Sylvie Nelson, president of the SQEES-FTQ, in another press release.
Members will be informed of the details of this agreement during the month of January 2025.
However, this is not the first agreement in principle in the Quebec daycare sector to occur during the month of December.
Last Sunday, Quebec announced that it had reached an agreement with CPE educators represented by the Federation of Early Childhood Workers of Quebec (FIPEQ) affiliated with the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ).
On December 15, it was the turn of those responsible for educational childcare services in a family environment represented by the Federation of Health and Social Services (FSSS) associated with the Confederation of National Unions (CSN) to reach an agreement with the ministry of the Family.
