A weakened stairwell
A few days before Christmas, a new building threatens to collapse in Toulouse, while the tragedy at 4 rue Saint-Rome, which occurred on March 9, 2024, is still remembered.
Called around 12:30 p.m., firefighters and police quickly intervened on site and evacuated the building located at 39 rue des Lois. “It was a problem in the stairwell which was weakened,” explains the Toulouse town hall, the day after the evacuation.
Insufficient shoring
While work was underway in the buildingshoring was already installed on this weakened staircase. “But it wasn’t effective. Work will have to be done so that this shoring is extended to the basement of the building,” adds the town hall.
Situation the day after
“This Monday, December 23 in the morning, the town hall services returned to the site with teams from the building sector. After investigation, the building is now in relative emergency, less emergency compared to yesterday and the apartments are again accessible. Only the basement is prohibited from access,” concludes the Toulouse town hall service.
A formal notice was declared so that the work in this stairwell is definitively carried out by January 13, 2025.
