The first days of 2024 saw Elisabeth Borne leave Matignon, the last days of 2024 saw her return to the government. The Calvados MP is appointed Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Research in the government of François Bayrou, this Monday, December 23. The “Together for the Republic” parliamentarian is the fifth education minister of the year, after Gabriel Attal, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, Nicole Belloubet and Anne Genetet, and the sixth since 2022 and the start of Emmanuel's second five-year term Macron. Elisabeth Borne sees her portfolio expanded to include higher education and research, a first since 2017. The Minister of State becomes number two in the government and will be supported by Philippe Baptiste, until then president of CNES (National Center for space studies), appointed minister responsible for higher education and research.
