SENEGAL-HEALTH / The government committed to reviving the pharmaceutical industry (minister) – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, Dec 23 (APS) – The government of Senegal is resolutely committed to the implementation of the pharmaceutical industry recovery program in order to significantly reduce imports of medicines and health products, the minister said on Monday. of Health and Social Action, Ibrahima Sy.

He was speaking during the funding ceremony, by the Delegation for Rapid Entrepreneurship (DER), to pharmacists for the opening of pharmacies in the 14 regions of the country.

''This initiative will contribute directly or indirectly to the development of human capital in health and to resolve the issue of social equity,'' welcomed Ibrahima Sy, stressing that this funding is part of the dynamic of pharmaceutical sovereignty advocated by the head of state.

The minister recalled that the WHO declared Senegal “the first country in French-speaking Africa to reach maturity level 3 for medicines, thus attesting to the stability of our pharmaceutical implementation”.

''All this shows that the dynamic of pharmaceutical transformation is underway,'' he said, calling for the strengthening of the movement for quality medicine.

The minister noted that “more than 1,600 pharmacies” have been identified on the national territory by his services, of which 1,281 have been “mapped”. He called for “continuing” this territorial network.
