A man in his forties died from his injuries after a violent attack that occurred this Friday evening in Tinqueux (Marne), near Reims. The tragedy took place on rue de Champaubert, a residential street lined with terraced houses.
A local resident raised the alarm shortly before 10 p.m., discovering the victim lying on the ground, lying in a pool of blood. The man had a significant bleeding wound on his head and was in cardio-respiratory arrest when help arrived. Transported to the Reims university hospital center by firefighters, he died around 11 p.m. “He succumbed to his injuries during the night,” said François Schneider, public prosecutor of Reims, confirming information from The Union.
The first elements collected by the judicial police indicate that the victim was attacked by several individuals. A flagrant investigation was opened to “acts of murder and aggravated willful violence”specified the Reims public prosecutor's office.
Five suspects in custody
As part of the investigations, five people were arrested and taken into custody on Saturday morning. Investigators are trying to determine whether the man was targeted at random or if he knew his attackers. “The investigation will have to establish in particular what dispute he could have had with them to the point of finding death in the street”added the prosecutor.
This tragedy revives the concerns of the inhabitants of Tinqueux regarding security. Several residents interviewed by the regional daily denounce recurring problems, such as damage, burglaries and attacks on people, particularly in the area of Avenue Bonaparte, located nearby. Some also regret the absence of video surveillance in this town of 10,000 inhabitants.
