During the night from Saturday to Sunday, a fire devastated part of the Guédj market in Kaolack, located in central Senegal. According to observations from the Senegalese Press Agency (APS), several dozen canteens were reduced to ashes.

Considerable material losses

The disaster, which occurred shortly after midnight, fortunately caused no human casualties. However, the material damage is significant, leaving many traders helpless in the face of the destruction of their property.

Rapid intervention but unknown origins

Firefighters, supported by shopkeepers and volunteers, quickly intervened to control the flames. Their combined action made it possible to limit the spread of the fire. For the moment, the origin of the fire remains undetermined.

An open investigation

The Police, present on the scene in the first hours following the fire, opened an investigation to determine the exact causes of the fire. While awaiting the results, the affected traders must face the serious economic consequences of this tragedy.
This tragedy once again highlights the vulnerability of markets to fires and the need to strengthen security measures in these key locations for the local economy.
