During a recent interview, Cheikh Oumar Diagne, Director of General Resources at the Presidency of the Republic, addressed the situation of Barthélémy Dias, recently dismissed from his post as mayor of Dakar.
According to Mr. Diagne, the only “chance” remaining for the ex-MP would be to play the victimization card after his imprisonment. He believes that politically, Barthélémy Dias no longer weighs anything.

“The only option left for Barthélémy Dias is to pose as a victim, seeking to provoke the State as much as possible to end up in prison. Once incarcerated, he would use his situation to victimize himself”revealed Cheikh Oumar Diagne while analyzing the ex-mayor's possible plan.
Concerning an alleged harassment of which Dias-fils would be a victim, Cheikh Oumar Diagne believes that Barthélémy Dias is not harassing him. Better, he adds, Barthélémy Dias weighs nothing. “ He can't even win Dakar.”he said.

According to Cheikh Oumar Diagne, Barthélémy Dias betrayed Ousmane Sonko. He even recalled having warned Ousmane Sonko about this, affirming that he had shown generosity towards them.
The Minister Advisor also specifies that the law is clear: any person who has been definitively convicted can no longer hold office during the five years following their conviction. However, the conviction of Barthélémy Dias, according to him, has been final since December 2023.
