And La Liga finds itself completely turned upside down. A sick Barça, defeated at the last second on Saturday by Atlético de Madrid, has just been overtaken by the Madrid rival, 4-2 winner of Sevilla FC this Sunday. Carlo Ancelotti's men are now in second place in the championship, three lengths ahead of the Catalan rival.
This great success took little time to take shape. Dominant, the Madrilenians quickly took the lead thanks to a cannonball from Kylian Mbappé, alone 20 m from the cage, in the 10th minute of play. A new goal in the Frenchman's hood, his fourth out of his four last matches. Seven minutes later, the former Parisian is very close to the double, but his half-volley flies above the Sevillian cage.
The break goal came in the 20th minute, with an equally powerful strike from Federico Valverde, served by Camavinga following a corner. A little further than Mbappé on the opening score, the Uruguayan fired a clear shot which found its way into the opposing net. Madrid is already taking cover, and continues to press.
A few minutes later, it's Rodrygo's turn to join in the fun. While Lucas Vazquez runs down the right side, launched by Diaz, he finds the Brazilian striker who takes the ball with first intention. The reduction of Seville's gap at the kick-off (35th), signed by Romero with a header, will however calm Madrid's enthusiasm. Just before the break, Vazquez then Ceballos will have the opportunity to increase their lead, but goalkeeper Fernandez and striker Idumbo, converted into a defender, prevent Sevilla from sinking.
Returning from the locker room, and after a Sevillian opportunity from Romero stopped by Courtois, Brahim Diaz brings the score to 4-1 for Real. On his right side, Lucas Vazquez is found by Mbappé. The full-back finds the Frenchman who notices the Spaniard's perfect placement between the defenders. With a first intention pass, the captain of the Blues serves his teammate who crucifies the Sevillians (53rd).
After this new goal, Real continues to push and intends to spoil the day of Jesus Navas, who came on in the 65th minute for the very last match of his career. But Fernandez avoids the humiliation of his family and Sevilla even returns to 4-2 thanks to Lukebakio. Author of a relaxed save a few minutes earlier on a long shot from Lonkonga, Thibaut Courtois finally made a hole (86th).
This last goal does not change the result of the match. With this new success in La Liga, Real concludes its year 2024 in the best possible way. Here they are now second in the championship. The battle for the La Liga title promises to be intense, especially with Kylian Mbappé increasingly comfortable in the game.
