Calum Ritchie broke a 2-2 tie in the third period and Canada defeated Sweden 4-2 in a preseason game for the World Junior Hockey Championship on Saturday.

Sweden built a 2-1 lead in the second period on goals from Felix Unger Sorum and Rasmus Bergqvist. The Northern European nation, however, was unable to maintain the pace in the third, being outshot 17-6 and 44-24 overall.

Luca Pinelli, Oliver Bonk and Easton Cowan also hit the target for the maple leaf. Ritchie collected two assists.

Both teams were shut out on the power play. Canada had three chances, one more than Sweden.

Berkly Catton earned player of the match honors. The captain of the Spokane Chiefs did not collect any points, but he was involved in several quality Canadian actions, both in attack and defense.

Dave Cameron's men dominated 44 to 24 in shots on goal.

Canada will finish its preparation on Monday, at 5:30 p.m., against the Czech Republic in a match that will be present on our airwaves.

The Canadians defeated Switzerland 7-1 on Thursday in their first preseason game. They will play one last Monday, against the Czech Republic. Their first round robin match will take place on Wednesday against Finland.
