the essential
This Saturday afternoon, the Violets won not without difficulty (0-0, 2-4 on the tab) against the Hauts Lyonnais, residents of National 3. The fault, in particular, was a red card received by Niklas Schmidt in the first half-time.
It was a very bad afternoon that Niklas Schmidt could have experienced if TFC had not finally won at the end of the penalty shootout, this Saturday against Hauts Lyonnais (0-0, 2-4 after tab). Starting for only the third time this season, the German took the opportunity to show himself… but not in the best way.
In the 27th minute of play, Tom Meyer catches Mark McKenzie with a superb technical move and breaks through on the left wing. Coming to support, Schmidt attempts a tackle… completely missed. Right leg forward, he mows down the opposing midfielder at high speed without even touching the ball and hits the knee of his direct opponent.
Referee Mikael Lesage did not hesitate for a second and logically expelled the Toulouse number 8, who returned to the locker room even before the half-hour mark. An incident which could have been the turning point of the match, since he gave a real boost of motivation to the Hauts Lyonnais, who had already made an interesting start to the match.

An error without consequences… for this match
Fortunately for Schmidt and the TFC, the residents of N3 were too clumsy to find the net. And they also made a big mistake with the red card received in the 67th minute by right-back Rudy Loirette, author of a dangerous tackle, also, on Yann Gboho.
In a post-match press conference, Toulouse coach Carles Martines Novell returned to this incident which could have cost his team dearly: “Niklas knows it was a mistake. Nothing to say about the red card. was too much commitment. We missed him on the pitch.”

This red card automatically suspends the German for one match, meaning he will miss the trip to Lens on January 5, 2025. The LFP disciplinary committee will meet in the coming days to possibly increase this sanction.
