Czech center forward Patrik Schick (28 years old) carried Bayer Leverkusen this Saturday with a quadruple against Freiburg (5-1), an eighth consecutive success which allows the reigning German champion to get in the wake of the Bayern, winner by the same score the day before, from Leipzig.
Thanks to this success, Bayer Leverkusen maintains its four points behind Vincent Kompany's team (32 against 36), on the evening of the 15th day and before the short three-week winter break in Germany.
The Werkself (the factory eleven, the nickname of the club team founded by the chemist Bayer in 1904) makes a small gap on its pursuers, since RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt, respectively beaten in Munich (5 -1) and against Mainz (3-1) have 27 points after 15 days.
Of course, it's special to score four goals. But other than that, I can play even better
In 33 minutes, between the first minute of added time of the first period and the 77th minute, Patrik Schick scored a quadruple – with a hat-trick inside, namely three consecutive goals in a half -, the second of his career, after the one already registered with Leverkusen, against Greuther Fürth (7-1) in December 2021, in 27 minutes that day.
Schick came off in the 80th minute, replaced by Aleix Garcia, to the ovations of the 30,000 spectators at the BayArena. “It wasn't my best game, but of course it's special to score four goals. But apart from that I can play even better”he reacted, in comments relayed by the club at the end of this dream evening, for him and his team.
