Montpellier falls into… Le Puy. Le Puy, a club from Auvergne and National 2 (fourth division), defeated Montpellier, residents of Ligue 1 (4-0), this Saturday in the 32nd final. Nice, long held by the Corsicans of Corte (National 3) and on penalties, escaped (1-1), at the end of the suspense. Note the incredible performance of the Corsican goalkeeper, who postponed the defeat for a long time. For its part, Nantes, in great difficulty in Ligue 1, reassured itself by beating Drancy (resident of Nationale 3, 0-4).
In the other matches, Lyon, without shining, beat Feignies-Aulnoye (1-2). Thaon (National 3) also created a nice feat by beating Amiens, resident of Ligue 2 (2-1).
Le Puy, untouchable
Puy Foot 43, 2nd in its group in National 2 (4th div.) eliminated Montpellier, bottom of Ligue 1 after winning 4-0, Saturday at the Charles-Massot stadium in Puy-en-Velay (Haute- Loire) at the end of a match well controlled by the Ponots.
Last season, Le Puy reached the quarter-finals, eliminated by Rennes (3-1) at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium in Saint-Étienne after taking out two Ligue 2 teams, Dunkerque and Laval. In 2022-2023, the Ponots beat Nice (1-0) in the 32nd final. This defeat sounds like a humiliation for the Montpellier residents, as they were totally dominated by the Altiligère team in the second half.
Nantes breathes
In difficulty in Ligue 1, FC Nantes maintained its rank as a first division club by easily defeating Drancy (N.3) 4-0 in the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France, Saturday in Saint-Ouen on the lawn of the RedStar.
Matthis Albine, the Nantes striker, scored twice in the first period (21st, 33rd) before Nicolas Zézé (63rd) and Mostafa Mohamed (82nd) sealed the victory for the Canaries in the second half. Nantes thus successfully entered the Coupe de France by qualifying for the round of 16.
Lyon in pain
Olympique Lyonnais won (2-1) against Entente Feignies-Aulnoye (National 2) in the 32nd final of the Coupe de France on Saturday, in a match played at the Stade du Hainaut, in Valenciennes.
Saïd Benrahma, with a sublime free kick in the top corner (44th), then Georges Mikautadze after a nice move with a touch of the ball (88th), gave the Lyonnais victory before Kevin Koubemba reduced the score in favor of the fourth division amateurs in added time (90th + 4).
Nice suffers but breathes
Nice was very scared but finally qualified on Saturday for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France by beating on penalties (1-1; 5 tab to 3) the amateurs of Corte, who play in N3 (5th division ).
After a missed penalty at the start of the match by Sofiane Diop, the Niçois fell 1-0 on a goal from Christopher Boussemart for the Corsican team (11th). The Aiglons were then reduced to 10 after the logical expulsion of Yaël Nandjou. After the break, Nice still managed to equalize thanks to Tanguy Ndombélé (1-1, 60th). On penalties, all the Niçois succeeded in their attempt, unlike Corte defender Fabio Perotto.
