Some Bretons will feel the wind blowing three days before Christmas. Ille-et-Vilaine and Côtes-d'Armor have been placed on orange alert for the day of Sunday, in particular between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., by Météo France due to an expected “episode of violent gusts” . The Manche department is also affected by this meteorological context which could be “accompanied by stormy showers” or even “hail”.
Peaks of 120 to 130 km/h on the coast
“The northwest gusts will strengthen from the end of the morning and will last until mid-afternoon on Sunday,” Météo France also indicated. Associated with frequent showers, sometimes stormy and accompanied by sleet, these squalls could reach 120 km/h or even 130 km/h locally on the coast, and around 100 km/h inland. The episode is also notable for its duration.
These gusts are explained, according to the meteorological institute, in particular by “a rapid northwest flow between a depression called Enol located to the west of Norway and a powerful anticyclone located in the North Atlantic”.
