As the end-of-year holidays approach, the Prévention Routière association is highlighting the dangers of drinking and driving. Objective: to encourage motorists not to drink or sleep on site.
Be careful if you hit the road during the end-of-year holidays. As every year, road safety emphasizes the need not to take the road when drinking alcohol, in order to avoid the worst. In Arras, the Prévention Routière association contacts visitors to the town's Christmas market. In front of the chalets, distribution of breathalyzers and “dose bar” workshop, led by Daniel, volunteer.

“If you have a friend over at your house, you will pour him a glass of whiskey for example. So, the bar dose is 3cl. And there, the glass makes three bar doses. If you go and get a second one, there , that's three additional bar doses, or six bar doses in total… And there, it's impossible to get back behind the wheel”, he explains on the microphone of Europe 1.
Objective: to raise public awareness of the quantities of alcohol served at home at the end of the year. “During the festive period, we will tend to drink more than usual. So, it (the dose bar workshop, editor’s note) will make us think about Christmas time,” confides a visitor, present at the workshop.

A plague
An awareness, “this is the reason for our presence on the Christmas markets”, points out Mathilde Farcette, regional director of the Prévention Routière association.
“Eight out of ten French people say they consume alcohol during the end-of-year celebrations. And we know that at night, 46% of fatal accidents are due to drunk drivers,” insists she said, ensuring that it is therefore essential to encourage drivers not to take the road on Christmas and New Year's Eve, or to designate a Sam.
