The Toulouse Sacha ValleauFrench rugby union and sevens player, announces his retirement at the age of 28 due to a long back injury. The player from the Vannes rugby club (RCV) published a video of his motivations on Friday December 20, 2024.
End of career at the age of 28
“I am putting an end to my career as a professional rugby player, says Sacha Valleau in a video posted on RCV social networks.
“I have been living with pain that has become insurmountable for 10 months. I am forced to make this decision. This is a difficult moment, because I am closing the biggest chapter of my life. I have no choice but to stop,” he adds.
I feel lucky. I have traveled all over the world. I’ve played to packed stadiums. I have always dreamed of wearing the French team jersey. I wore it for seven years. This will remain engraved for life.
A child’s dream
Since he was 10, he has dreamed of becoming a professional rugby player:
There wasn’t a single school year where I didn’t write that my dream job would be to be a professional gamer. May the road be beautiful.
It is detected by Stade Toulousain. One of the highlights of his career took place in rugby sevens. He wore the French sevens team jersey 389 times. He scored a try in Rio Olympics at 19 years old. He was able to go to a World Cup and score against the All Blacks.
One of the turning points in his career at Vannes
Sacha Valleau signs a contract at RCV in 2021. The third row had a great adventure in Morbihan:
It’s a club with a lot of respect, culture and the best supporters in the world. I had an exceptional moment when I climbed into the Top 14. It was one of the turning points in my career. I am convinced that the club will remain in the elite for the long term.
He adds:
Experience a rise and write a page in the history of RC Vannes, an incredible club. I loved every fraction of a second and always gave my all, every time I stepped onto the pitch. And even if the end may seem cruel, it’s part of high-level sport…
From now on, Sacha Valleau is looking for “new dreams” to realize.
