Why has the merger of two high schools in the Caen metropolitan area attracted the wrath of an entire city?

From January 1, 2025, new financial management software must be implemented at the Collège Lycée Expérimental (CLE) ofHérouville Saint-Clairnear Caen (Calvados).

This technical modernization, which involves “a merger” with Fresnel high school in Caen, worries the representatives of the parents of students, supported by the municipal council of Hérouville and by the deputy Arthur Delaporte.

A loss of autonomy and representation

The new software in fact implies for the establishment to move from antenna status autonomous from Fresnel high school (since 1985) to that of “section” from Fresnel high school:

The software does not adapt to the specificities of the CLE. It is not normal for the functioning of an establishment to be impacted and threatened by IT parameters!

“A real loss of identity for the CLE”

Much more than a technical update, this new software would come interfere with autonomy of the establishment, by removing for example its instances, its autonomy in terms of budget management and its representatives: “It’s a real loss of identity for the KEY which has always been self-managed. If there are no more student representatives, there is no longer any democracy. You imagine a student who goes before the disciplinary council, no longer in front of the CLÉ teaching team, but in front of that of the Fresnel high school. This makes no sense,” worries Laurent Lehoux.

Everyone is asking for a postponement

In total, parents, teaching teams, municipality and elected officials unanimously request, the postponement of the implementation of the Op@le softwarein order to find solutions and to preserve the operation of this innovative establishment.

The concerns are well-founded and we think it is important to hear them and take them into account. We are asking for a postponement of implementation, in order to calm the situation and find the best solutions.

For the moment, the Rectorate has responded unfavorably to the request for postponement : “we will continue to alert,” specifies Arthur Delaporte.
