The man, who had already spent a year and a half in pre-trial detention, was accused of having falsified land titles and registration decisions. An expert opinion, however, revealed that the disputed signatures were indeed those of the curator. The defense then denounced the relentlessness of the administration, motivated, according to it, by personal differences between the accused and his superiors.

For its part, land conservation highlighted the “unprecedented offenses” committed by the employee on the day of his departure, behavior considered suspicious. However, some testimonies have recanted, and others have insisted on the absence of direct evidence. The accused denied any involvement in the disputed files, presenting himself as a simple executioner.

Beyond this individual case, the affair highlighted the dysfunctions of the land conservation service. Several employees insisted on the absence of clear procedures for managing files and handing over responsibilities; a sometimes chaotic organization which may have facilitated the actions of the former employee.

As a reminder, the case began after a complaint from the Tangier land registrar against “M. A.”. The latter, who resigned in March 2023, was accused of having forged the curator’s signature on several files. Dismissed from the civil service, he was accused of having accessed the archives service without authorization to falsify documents.
