The Agglomeration and the City of Carcassonne also announce that they are mobilizing.
“It is imperative that we act urgently and show our solidarity.” At the conclusion of this last session of the Aude departmental council of the year 2024, an emergency grant was unanimously voted to come to the aid of the department of Mayotte devastated by the passage of cyclone Chido, Saturday December 14 .
The amount of this aid, voted this Thursday, December 19, amounts to €30,000 and will be paid to the association of the Departments of France which is responsible for collecting the aid with a view to organizing the means of action and reconstruction for the Department of Mayotte.

During her speech, the socialist president of the departmental council, Hélène Sandragné, spoke of the 2018 floods in the Aude region. “You have to have memory. We were able to measure the extent to which the outpouring of solidarity from other local authorities had been precious to us.” And to add: “Road infrastructure and educational establishments have been severely affected and will require very heavy rehabilitation.”
A statement of necessity shared by the City and the Agglomeration of Carcassonne. This Thursday evening, President Régis Banquet must propose granting exceptional aid of €10,000 which will be paid to Aude Solidarités. For his part, during the municipal council, the mayor of Carcassonne recalled the solidarity that Aude had benefited from during the floods of 1999 and 2018: “We must organize solidarity without delay,” he pointed out. A ballot box will be made available at the town hall to collect donations, in partnership with the Aude mayors’ association. AMA which also calls for “provide financial support as quickly as possible to emergency operations deployed or in preparation”by making a donation to civil protection.
Note that four firefighters from Aude were dispatched to help the victims of Mayotte. The firefighters are attached to the USAR team (rescue support and search unit, Editor’s note).
