For the third year in a row, Amiens SC will have to cross swords with Thaon-les-Vosges, resident of National 3, to have the right to continue his adventure in the Coupe de France. And while the Picardy club was surprised at the end of 2022, Siaka Bakayoko knows that the slightest relaxation could again cost his team dearly. Interview.
Siaka Bakayoko, how are you approaching this Coupe de France match against Thaon?
Whether it’s the championship or the Coupe de France, we are in the same state of mind every week. It’s fun to play the same opponent for the third year in a row, knowing that he put us in difficulty both times. This is going to be a good match and we will have to put in the necessary intensity to come out victorious.
What does the Coupe de France represent in your eyes?
It’s a legendary competition. Every year, we see small teams beating big teams. It’s really a great competition. It’s also exciting to know that we can play in Ligue 1 at some point. Now, the motivation will be the same against a National 3. If I have the chance to play, I will give my maximum.
How hard is it to play this kind of match?
It’s hard for everyone. If I talk about young people, we try to adapt. From the training center, we are also being prepared for this type of match. In reserve, we are used to playing against National 2 or National 3 teams. We also know that in the Coupe de France, this type of team gives everything in a match. These are knockout matches. It’s really up to us to be at our best to beat this kind of team.
Personally, is this a way to score points?
No matter the match, each time the coach lines me up, I try to show that I can be a safe bet for the next matches. If I have to play, I hope I can show what I am capable of. I really want to get some playing time and prove myself.
