Two days after the death of a 16-year-old minor during a brawl in Paris, a teenager of the same age was indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention on Thursday, December 19. Schooled at Rodin high school, establishment 13e district near which the fatal attack took place, the boy indicted was arrested on the spot, while the other protagonists of the brawl had fled.
“The judicial investigation is also open against X for the violence aggravated by three circumstances”with a weapon, in a meeting and near a school establishment, and “the investigations are now continuing under the direction of the investigating judge”said the prosecution.
According to previous explanations from the prosecution, “he and the victim, with other young people yet to be identified, clearly maintained a relationship of animosity punctuated by recourse to violence in different places in Paris”. The brawl arose from the rivalry between the Glacière district and that of Admiral Mouchez.

Progression of band phenomena
Tuesday morning, before the start of classes, a fight broke out near the Rodin middle and high school. In cardio-respiratory arrest and with head injuries, the minor was treated by emergency services but died in hospital.
Resident of Ivry in Val-de-Marne, bordering department of 13e district, the victim was attending a vocational high school in Alfortville. He had already been injured by a stab on December 10 near the René Cassin high school, in the XVIe district, facts which are the subject of an investigation, said the prosecution.
According to the same source, the death of the teenager “is part of the continuity of a phenomenon of recurrent brawls between young people in the 13 sectore district, where eight clashes have been observed since May 2024”.

There were four deaths in 2023 compared to three in 2022. The number of injuries increased by 2% and the use of a weapon – of any kind – increased by 22.5% between 2022 and 2023.
