This Thursday, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) hosted in Rabat the opening of the meetings of the Council of the Socialist International Women, under the evocative theme “Progressive solutions for a changing world”. This international event aims to debate crucial issues related to women’s empowerment and gender equality, while strengthening collective efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals set by the Agenda 2030.
The inaugural session was marked by a welcome speech delivered by Hanane Rahhab, National Secretary for Women of the USFP. It was followed by interventions by Idriss Lachgar, First Secretary of the USFP, and Chantal Kambou, General Coordinator of the International Socialist Union, who highlighted the importance of international cooperation to respond to contemporary challenges.
The discussions opened on the theme “What direction for the empowerment of Arab women within the framework of the 2030 Agenda? »in the presence of influential figures such as Aïcha El Wardji, Vice-President of the Socialist International Women, and Hala Ben Youssef from Tunisia. The second session, chaired by Hala Ben Youssef, focused on “Beijing +30: Progress and challenges, an agenda that unites us”. This theme brought together representatives from Belgium, Angola and France to assess the progress and challenges since the Beijing Declaration.
The day also made it possible to explore cross-cutting issues, including peace and security, conflicts in Central Africa, the Israeli-Palestinian question seen through an African prism, as well as the impacts of climate change and the challenges posed by recent floods on the African continent.
The work, which will close with a final declaration supervised by Janet Melo, President of the Socialist International Women, aims to establish strategic recommendations and concrete actions for the future.
The Socialist International Women, a global organization of social democratic parties, plays a vital role in promoting women’s rights and gender equality. The USFP, a key player in this organization, continues to defend national causes while strengthening African partnerships for inclusive development and sustainable social justice.
