Go on a literary tour of France, where the somewhat special initiative of combining arts and sciences allows new artistic approaches.
A second national scene in Grenoble.
Located on the border between Grenoble and Meylan, the Hexagon, a live performance art theater, opened its doors in 1976. It was not until 1990 that the Ministry of Culture labeled the Hexagon “national stage” . Indeed, a policy of cultural decentralization led this ministry to support the production and dissemination of arts in the provinces. With its 17 permanent employees, France supports, legitimizes and supports the cultural presence of the MC2 in Grenoble, which has also been awarded this label. This facilitates proximity and relationships with the general public.
“Expérimenta” at the crossroads of arts and sciences.
In 2007, a non-legal collaboration was created between France and the CEA. For what ? With the aim of organizing the meeting of professions which one would doubt could cross paths in a framework like this and yet: I named the Arts-Sciences Workshops. Resource people, such as scientists and artists from the two institutes, are linked to create artifacts or shows. It is also in this context that “Experimenta” was born, a biennial which allows the creations of these artistic-scientific meetings to be highlighted for a month.
A new team serving societal issues
Since 2022, Jérôme Villeuneuve, the new director of Hexagon, has changed the establishment’s approach, in particular through an expansion of residencies and artistic support. It has also made changes following new ecological issues or technological revolutions.
These transformations apply, among other things, to communication services, where Nathalie and Jade have reduced the formats of brochures, ensure a more regular presence on social networks and manage the 3 websites. The ecological collective “Les VerdoYantes”, of which they are a part, allows them to continue with more sustainable objectives.
Next year, the 12th Experimenta biennial will be held from February 1 to March 1, 2025! On the program: shows, exhibitions, a round table and much more to discover, not only in France but also at the Bastille, at the Dauphinois museum, including the UGA. Find all the information on the Hexagone website for this promising edition!
