The sub-prefecture Lorient (Morbihan) counts 58 202 habitants. Population growth continues in the city of five ports.
Increase for three years
The commune of Lorient gained 928 inhabitants for the last study period (six years between 2016 and 2022) from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) published on December 19, 2024.
Fabrice Loher, mayor of Lorient and president of Lorient Agglomération, welcomes the good figures:
Lorient is regaining inhabitants for the third year in a row, after more than 40 years of decline. This result demonstrates our ambition in terms of economic development and justifies our policy of accelerating housing production to make Lorient a city where it is good to live, work and flourish in a protected and green environment.
“In three years, the city of Lorient will have gained nearly 950 additional inhabitants,” indicates the city councilor who adds:
In addition to an increase in the overall operating allocation paid by the State, this increase in the population should allow us to continue our investments and improve the operation of some of our public services.
The city of Lorient remains the most populated city in the department, ahead of Vannes (54,955 inhabitants).
