Cyclone Chido struck Mayotte, the 101st French department since 2011, on Saturday December 14, with unprecedented violence, causing catastrophic damage to the archipelago and plunging the Mahorais into distress.
While the human toll from the passage of Cyclone Chido continues to increase and survival conditions continue to deteriorate, the mayor, Pierre Bell-Lloch, in a press release, calls on the State and solidarity international on the urgency of deploying all necessary means to help the population of Mayotte and rebuild the island.
“We provide all our support to the population and mayors of Mayotte who are facing an unprecedented crisis. I also welcome the rapid reaction of the progressive Reunion Islanders and the Secours populaire already mobilized to come to the aid of Mayotte.”
The mayor also indicates that the town of Vitry will grant an exceptional grant to solidarity, during the board of directors of its municipal social action center in January.
He also thanks the Vitriots, already numerous, for their mobilization and their unwavering solidarity.
“Vitry and its inhabitants will be, as they were for the floods in Libya or Spain, the earthquake in Morocco, Turkey and Syria, mobilized to provide assistance in the face of this human and material tragedy.”
