The Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State expressed, Thursday in Bouznika, their deep gratitude to Morocco for its constant efforts to end the Libyan crisis, restore security and stability, and promote unification of the country’s sovereign institutions.

This consultative meeting, bringing together 120 participants, is part of the Inter-Libyan Dialogue, aimed at revitalizing the political process in Libya. It aims to give new impetus to efforts to achieve presidential and parliamentary elections, as part of a road map for the formation of a unity government.
The two institutions agreed to continue their joint meetings to promote national understanding, peacefully resolve the crisis and unify the country’s sovereign institutions. They also insisted on the need to prioritize competence and merit in the management of institutions, thus guaranteeing transparency and accountability.
The parties stressed that the solution to the Libyan crisis requires free and transparent elections, based on the “6+6” laws adopted by Libyan institutions and supported by UN Security Council resolutions.
An agreement was also reached to launch joint action between the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, with a view to resolving the various issues relating to elections, the recomposition of the executive power, institutional and financial reform, as well as as well as national reconciliation and equitable management of resources.
The two institutions welcomed their cooperation with the UN Mission and expressed their determination to develop a clear road map, with a well-defined timetable, to exit the political transition and achieve a definitive solution to the Libyan crisis.
Since 2015, on the instructions of King Mohammed VI, Morocco has facilitated dialogues between the Libyan parties in Skhirat, under the aegis of the United Nations, which resulted in the Skhirat agreement. This agreement allowed the formation of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Unity, the unification of the institutions of the Libyan State and the organization of elections intended to guarantee the stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Libya.
