According to the latest INSEE study released on December 19, 5,170,312 people live in Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur on January 1, 20222, i.e. 0.49% more than over the period from 2016 to 2021.

The city of Marseille remains the second largest in , with 877,215 inhabitants. There too, the population is increasing. The last census was in fact 873,076 inhabitants in the Marseille city.
