The Kingdom of Morocco recorded in 2024 a 100% success in its applications for vacant positions within international and regional organizations. This edifying assessment testifies to the credibility and confidence enjoyed by the Kingdom in international and regional bodies, in accordance with the Very High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God help him, for effective, pragmatic, and multilateral action. solidarity aimed at meeting the various global challenges.

The Kingdom of Morocco thus confirms, in 2024, its presence within international and regional organizations, through the successful completion of 67 Moroccan candidacies for various vacant positions within these organizations following intense electoral campaigns led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, in close coordination with the other ministries and departments concerned.

These unprecedented successes were made possible thanks to a strategic and proactive approach, based on results, taking into account the diplomatic priorities of the Kingdom as defined by the Very High Directions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God help him, underlines the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad in a press release.

During 2024, Morocco was thus able to access more than 30 international and regional organizations, which confirms the international recognition of Moroccan expertise and competence in different areas:

At the security level, Morocco was elected by an overwhelming majority, for the first time, to the position of Vice-President for the Africa region within the Executive Committee of Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization). The Kingdom will host the 93rd Session of the Interpol General Assembly in November 2025 in Marrakech.

At the political level, Morocco was elected a member of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission for the year 2025-2026. Within the League of Arab States (LAS), Morocco was also reappointed to the position of Deputy Secretary General of the LAS and was also reappointed as head of the Representation of this regional organization in Berlin.

In terms of Human Rights, the Kingdom was elected, for the first time, President of the Human Rights Council. It has, moreover, recorded a reinforced presence within the UN human rights architecture. Morocco was thus re-elected to the Human Rights Committee for the period 2025-2028. He was reappointed Member of the Subcommittee for the Prevention of Torture for the period 2025-2028 and was elected for a 2nd term within the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Kingdom was also elected to the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights for the period 2025-2028.

In the field of disarmament, Morocco was elected President of the 6th Conference for the establishment of a zone free of nuclear weapons in the Middle East, for the year 2025, and was also designated a member of the Committee of management of the Global Forum to Combat Nuclear and Radiological Terrorism (FTPRINT).

In areas relating to economic development, Morocco was elected President of the Board of Directors of the World Food Program (WFP) and member of the Working Group responsible for examining the governance of this UN body, for 2024. It was also elected Vice-Chairman of the Subcommittee on Fisheries Management of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and a member of the Steering Committee of the Global Framework on Water Scarcity in agriculture (WASAG).

The Kingdom was elected member of the Program and Budget Committee of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) for the period 2024-2025 and as Chairman of the Special UN Intergovernmental Committee responsible for Tax Cooperation .

Regarding the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Morocco was chosen to co-chair with Finland the ECOSOC Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation, in May 2025.

Morocco was also able to access key positions in the Arab region, notably as a member of the new Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Ministers of Electricity, member of the Council of Arab Ministers of Tourism, member of the Council of Arab Ministers of Water, and member of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Urban Planning.

At the level of the African Union, Morocco was elected to the post of Secretary General of the African Organization of Higher Public Finance Audit Institutions (AFROSAI). He was also elected member of the African Space Council of the African Space Agency of the AU.

At the international maritime level, Morocco was re-elected, in November 2024, as a member of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, the main body of the Convention on the Law of the Sea, responsible for ruling on requests from States Parties to extend the shelf. continental. The Kingdom was also elected member of the Council of the International Seabed Authority.

At the Social level, Morocco was chosen as co-facilitator with Belgium of the UN negotiation process relating to the modalities of organizing the World Social Summit, scheduled for November 2025 in Qatar.

The Kingdom was also elected Chairman of the Narcotics Control Body and Rapporteur of the 68th Session of the Commission on Narcotics. Morocco was elected member of the African Union Advisory Council on the fight against corruption. He was also elected Vice-President of the 12th Meeting of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC), and Member of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice.

At the level of the international civil service, the Kingdom was re-elected as a member of the United Nations International Civil Service Commission for the period 2025-2028.

In the cultural field, Morocco has been designated as a member of the Board of Directors of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning. The Kingdom was also designated Vice-President of the General Assembly of ICOMOS of UNESCO for the year 2024, and elected to the Presidency of the International Coordinating Council of the UNESCO program on Man and Life. biosphere.

He was also elected Vice-President of the 10th Session of the General Assembly of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The cities of Benguerir, Agadir, Fez and Essaouira have been designated UNESCO Learning Cities. In addition, the city of Tetouan was designated to host the 1st Arab Regional Meeting of UNESCO Creative Cities, while the city of Rabat was elected World Book Capital for the year 2026.

In the field of sports, the Kingdom was elected Vice-President of the International Olympic Committee.
