Bourg-en-Bresse strikes a big blow on the transfer market by recruiting Brandon Jefferson, top scorer in the French championship in 2021-2022. An XXL reinforcement which should allow the club to take a step forward. Discover behind the scenes of this resounding signature…
In search of an experienced leader to strengthen its squad, JL Bourg has just made a nice move on the transfer market. The Ain club in fact formalized on Wednesday the signing of Brandon Jefferson, one of the most talented players in the French championship.
A scorer born to energize the Burgian attack
Aged 33, this American leader has built a solid reputation in France. MVP of Pro B with Orléans in 2019, he then confirmed in Betclic Elite under the colors of Strasbourg then Pau-Lacq-Orthez. A true scoring machine, he was even the top scorer in the championship in 2021-2022 with an average of 18.2 points.
His scoring profile and his outlook should fit perfectly into the Burgian collective. Alongside Alen Omic and Zachery Peacock, he will form a formidable American trio which promises great offensive flights at Ekinox.
A rich experience of French Basketball
Beyond his individual qualities, Brandon Jefferson will also bring his great knowledge of our championship. The Texan has already played in 3 Betclic Elite clubs:
- Orléans in 2018-2019 (15.5 points per game in Pro B)
- Strasbourg in 2020-2021 (15.1 points in the league and BCL)
- Pau-Lacq-Orthez in 2021-2022 (18.2 points, top scorer in the championship)
This experience will be valuable to help a Burgian team still under construction to reach a new level. His experience at the high European level, acquired in particular during the BCL (Basketball Champions League) campaign with Strasbourg in 2021, will be an undeniable plus.
One American asset too many?
The arrival of Jefferson, however, raises a question: with now 5 Americans in the squad, coach Savo Vucevic will have to leave one of them in the stands for each match. A “rich man’s problem” that will have to be managed with skill to maintain a competitive team and a united group.
We are very happy to welcome Brandon. He is a real leader who will bring us a lot. We will make sure to manage it well within the workforce.
Savo Vucevic, coach of JL Bourg
A complex equation for the Burgian coach, who will undoubtedly have to rely on the human qualities of Jefferson. Renowned as an exemplary teammate, he is the man to unite a group despite competition.
First steps expected against Nanterre
According to our information, Brandon Jefferson should be qualified for the trip to Nanterre on December 27. All eyes will be on the new Burgian leader for his big debut under his new colors.
If he manages to quickly find his feet, there is no doubt that he will quickly become an Ekinox darling. With his talent and experience, he has everything to leave his mark on the history of JL Bourg.
