But then which vehicles are affected by this project? In which municipalities? Do we necessarily have to have a Crit’Air sticker, even if our car is new? We’ll sort it all out with you!

The concept of Crit’Air stickers

The objective is clear. Limit from January 1, the circulation of the most polluting vehicles, within a defined perimeter and from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in and the surrounding area. The establishment of this obligation follows the 2021 climate and resilience law.

For this, the concept of Crit’Air stickers has been in place at national level since 2017, which should make it possible to classify vehicles according to their polluting emissions, particularly fine particles and nitrogen dioxide. This concerns all vehicles, even two-wheelers or heavy goods vehicles for example.

The small badge, which is obligatory even if your vehicle is recent, must be stuck on your windshield, at the front.

Concretely in Pau and in the urban area (notably in Billère, Bizanos, Gelos Idron, Jurançon, Lons and Mazères-Lezons), to travel in this area, you will need to have a vehicle with a Crit’Air sticker classified E, 1, 2 , 3,4 or 5. Unclassified vehicles, known as pollutants, are excluded. Certain vehicles are affected by national exemptions. You can check your case on the government website.

You can find the map of the exact perimeter in more detail here.

Traveling in a low-emission mobility zone (ZFE-m) with an unauthorized vehicle or without a Crit’Air sticker is punishable by a fixed fine of €68.

How to obtain your sticker?

The editorial team advises you

One official site and only one, watch out for scams, allows you to issue the air quality sticker.

Simply enter the license plate number and the date of first registration, then an address to order it. It costs €3.77, no more, no less!

Also good to know, while waiting to be delivered, the invoice that you received during your online payment contains the provisional certificate which attests to your order and is admissible in the event of an inspection by the police.
