Makhtar Diop, Director General of the International Finance Corporation (Ifc), is visiting Senegal from December 18 to 23.

According to a press release, he will hold discussions with senior officials of the Government of Senegal, private sector actors and entrepreneurs to explore how Ifc can scale up its support for economic development and job creation in the country.

According to the same source, Mr. Diop’s visit offers an opportunity to highlight the possibilities for Senegal to stimulate its development by encouraging greater participation of the private sector in the areas of agri-food, industry, infrastructure, digital and tourism. This approach is part of Ifc’s commitment to supporting the implementation of the national transformation agenda “Vision Senegal 2050”.

Mr. Diop will meet in particular with the President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, other members of the government, as well as leaders of the agri-food and industry sectors. He will also visit Madiba, the vaccinopôle of the Institut Pasteur de Dakar located in Diamniadio, near Dakar.

“As the mobilization lead for this project, Ifc structured $45 million in financing, comprising a $15 million loan from Ifc and $30 million mobilized from partner institutions,” recalls the press release. The Director General of Ifc will also have the opportunity to discuss with entrepreneurs and innovators in the health, artificial intelligence and creative industries sectors to discuss the support that Ifc can provide to the dynamic Senegalese startup ecosystem. technological.

On the sidelines of his visit, Mr. Diop will announce Ifc investments in various promising sectors, thus reaffirming the institution’s support for the development of solutions brought by the private sector. “During the last fiscal year, Ifc committed approximately USD 615 million in investments in Senegal, in the form of loans for its own account and by mobilizing resources from other partners, a record for the institution in the country “, we read in the press release.

Ifc’s ongoing investments in Senegal support vaccine production, digital infrastructure, tourism, housing, renewable energy, manufacturing and agricultural value chains.
