As part of the celebration of the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the House of Representatives of Rabat attended, this Wednesday, December 18, the organization of a study day on the theme “The human rights in Morocco and the challenges of emerging issues”.
The meeting was marked by a speech delivered by Ms. Fatima Berkane, Secretary General of the Ministerial Delegation for Human Rights, on behalf of the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, in which he underlined the importance of this event which embodies Morocco’s deep involvement in the protection of rights and freedoms as a strategic choice for the State and society.
“This approach is consistent with the high royal directives and the visionary vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who places human rights at the heart of the national development project,” he says.
He also highlighted the profound transformations taking place in the global human rights agenda, with the emergence of emerging issues such as digital technology, artificial intelligence and human rights at law. digital age. He stressed that these challenges require legal and institutional rehabilitation to ensure the protection of rights and freedoms in the context of regular development.
Mr. Ouahbi mentioned a set of priorities that need to be worked on, including:
- Qualifying national legislation: develop modern legal frameworks that correspond to modern developments, such as combating digital violence and guaranteeing the rights of vulnerable groups.
- Strengthen protection and reparation: improve mechanisms for reporting violations and ensure reparation for victims, with a focus on women and children.
- Spread a culture of human rights: establish an integrated societal awareness on rights and duties, particularly among younger generations.
International engagement: Strengthen Morocco’s role in formulating standards and guidelines related to emerging issues through international mechanisms.
Ultimately, he underlined the importance of strengthening the culture of human rights in order to guarantee its protection against any negative exploitation, emphasizing Morocco’s commitment to constantly working to strengthen the rights and dignity of citizens, and ensure respect for the constitution and the principles established in the history of the kingdom.
