Thursday December 12, 2024, Limoges customs intercepts a Mercedes vehicle traveling on the A20 motorway in the north-south direction. It concerns a couple, a 56-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man.

During the search, inside the passenger compartment, customs officers discovered one hundred and forty pots of three hundred grams of rolling tobacco and fifteen “Winston” brand cartridges with a market value of around €26,000 in France. They also came across the receipt attesting to the purchase of tobacco in Luxembourg for an amount of €6,845.

The couple was taken into custody. A search of their home led to the discovery of a second tobacco purchase receipt dating from December 7 for an amount almost equal to the previous one, €6,538.

Since December 12, investigators have recorded ten round trips between the Luxembourg border and Limousin.

Understandably, the man admitted part of the facts, according to the police. He admitted to having made only two purchases of tobacco in Luxembourg.

They will be summoned before the criminal court on April 7, 2025 at 10 a.m.

They will have to explain two customs offenses: the smuggling of tobacco products, manufacturing and possession of tobacco without supporting documents.

For these crimes, the couple risks a fine of between one and two times the value of the object of the fraud, as well as a sentence of three years in prison and confiscation of the means of transport used to commit the crime. offense.

Although tobacco is a regulated drug, trafficking persists. In 2023, French state services seized 92.64 tonnes of cannabis compared to 521 tonnes of contraband tobacco.
