Miscellaneous facts – A 20-year-old young man was shot dead Tuesday evening around 11:30 p.m. in Aix-en-Provence, probably in connection with a drug transaction, police and judicial sources said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred late in the evening, in the Montée Bellevue district, during a meeting between two groups on board two vehicles, having “for apparent motive a drug transaction”, explained Jean-Luc Blachon, public prosecutor of Aix-en-Provence, to AFP.
According to initial information, at least one individual, his face hidden, emerged from one of the vehicles, armed with a handgun, and opened fire twice. One of the bullets fatally struck a passenger in the second vehicle, a young man born in 2004, in the neck.
At the time of the incident, three people aged 20 to 22 were in the targeted vehicle. All were known to the police for drug trafficking, but only as low-level executioners, the prosecutor said.
However, the number of passengers present in the attackers’ vehicle remains unknown, and no arrests had been made as of late Wednesday morning. The investigation, entrusted to the judicial police, is ongoing.
On Wednesday, it remained impossible to determine whether this murder had been premeditated, as part of an ambush, or whether it was the consequence of a transaction that went wrong, added Mr. Blachon. He also clarified that the neighborhood where this tragedy took place is not particularly known for being difficult.
