We came close to disaster on Saturday November 16, 2024, at Blois. It is 2 p.m., a motorist takes a roundabout in the wrong direction. The driver, who is coming in the opposite direction, must jerk the wheel to avoid the collision. The driver continues on his way. As he arrives on rue Gutenberg, not far from the fire station, he veers to the left and hits the vehicle approaching. Three people were injured and transported to hospital.

Driss G., 24 years old, is arrested by the police. The young man doesn’t seem well. And for good reason, he spent the night partying in a nightclub. The screening revealed a staggering blood alcohol content of 2.2 g! That’s not all: the young man also tested positive for cannabis. At the end of his police custody, he was brought to the courthouse and then placed in pre-trial detention as part of a deferred appearance.

“I mixed worries and alcohol”

The young man took his place in the defendant’s box on Monday, December 16, to answer for various offenses, in this case endangering others, involuntary injuries caused to three people, but also overlapping a continuous line, driving under the influence of alcohol and cannabis, driving without a license and without insurance.

The defendant had started treatment shortly before the accident, but following an argument with his mother, he left the family home and drank more than was reasonable and smoked cannabis. Although he no longer has a license, he bought a car which he took the risk of driving in his state. “Before the accident, I went to work with a scooter or in a carpool, I mixed worries and alcohol, there I did anything, I’m going to make a new start”, he promises.

But his case will ultimately not be judged because the civil party requested a referral. The prosecution requested his continued detention to guarantee his representation in court and avoid the repetition of serious facts.

The young man will not leave the remand center

The defense knows that the young man will not leave the remand center because he has to serve a total of 13 months of imprisonment imposed during previous judgments and he will not be able to hope for a possible adjustment before mid-January. “He acknowledges the alleged facts, he has undertaken treatment in prison, a sign that he has become aware of his addiction problems. »

The case was postponed to the hearing on January 9, the young man was kept in detention.
