Since its establishment in Villeneuve in 2017, the Brest voluntary military service center (SMV) has welcomed 561 boys and girls. Young people aged 18 to 25, struggling at school or far from employment who, thanks to this system, have been able to enter the professional world. They also benefited from driving lessons enabling them to take the driving license tests. An integration which benefits from the support of the center’s training teams, but also from Greta and Cirfa. Also, partner companies welcome young people for immersion internships. The Brest center has 105 commitment signatures this year and 83% positive exits.
“I would like to be an embarked marine rifleman”
This Friday, December 13, 2024, the SMV received its various speakers and former interns. Among them, Anrchidine Saïd, who is originally from Mayotte, “but I grew up in Marseille”. He joined the center in September 2023 and, after his initial training, completed his internship at Norauto, in customer reception: “a very good experience”. In September, he joined the Navy: he worked in the secretariat of a general in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. “It’s very good. I plan to pursue a career in the Navy. Being supervised here by sailors made me want to do it, he says. I would like to be a marine rifleman, but also a secretary that would suit me.”
Originally from Milizac-Guipronvel, Antoine Villars, 19, joined the SMV in May 2023, on the advice of a neighbor, the main teacher at the center. He chose the security sector and was an intern at Mondial Protection. “I would like to join the gendarmerie, the PSIG (Gendarmerie surveillance and intervention platoon, Editor’s note), take competitive examinations. Working in security could help me achieve this goal,” he says, determined to continue on this path.
