At a hairdresser, the customer will only be entitled to half of his haircut. As the scissor professional does not have a work permit, the police immediately stop his activity.

Seven establishments were checked this Monday afternoon. Bars, barbers, snack bars… A relatively classic operation for the national police who regularly organize them in all districts of . “We have worked a lot on the city center and we want to avoid any deportation of delinquency towards the outlying districts. And for that, there is only one solution to be present”underlines Jean-Michel Hornus, deputy director of the national police.

The figures are in any case rather satisfactory according to the police. “Delinquency on public roads is down 15.79% this year in Saint-Jean-du-Var. This is better than elsewhere in Toulon, where the average is -11%”.

Feeling of insecurity

Despite these data, residents report ambient insecurity. This is particularly what emerged from the last meeting of the local interest committee. Saint-Jean, a neighborhood more difficult than another? Not especially according to the police. For Jean-Michel Hornus, “we cannot be satisfied with good figures. What matters to us is that the population realizes this. That a feeling of security can develop.”

In the district, every quarter an operational partnership group is organized. It brings together the police, the city, but also the prefecture, National Education and the local interest committee. The idea is to share problems and above all to work together on solutions.

Points de deal?

Residents regularly deplore the proliferation of deal points in the surrounding area. An impression, which again, does not necessarily seem founded according to the police.

During the vast operation on Monday afternoon, only one person was caught in possession of cocaine. “These small quantities or even home delivery of multi-products, we are particularly attentive to this, assures Jean-Michel Hornus. Particularly when there is parallel possession of bladed weapons. We are here in situations that can degenerate and lead to ordinary violence.”

This Monday, eight people were arrested.
