In March 2023, Saint-Germain-en-Laye () welcomed the best swimmers of the planet within the intercommunal swimming pool, called the Dôme, during the first edition of the Giant open.

Organized by the Eventeam group, an event agency expert in sport, and the French Swimming Federation (FFN), the event aims to “raise ever higher French swimming and its ambitions on the front of the stage.

No request to the City yet

Renewed in 2024, the Giant open could well escape Saint-Germain-en-Laye in 2025. Indeed, during a recent municipal council meeting, mayor Arnaud Péricard created the doubt specifying that the City had not yet received a possible request to organize the meeting.

Above allthe elected official is not certain “that this event will take place in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, but [plutôt] within the new Saint-Denis swimming center”, built for the 2024 Olympic Games.

A “pending” event

It turns out in fact that the Giant Open appears on the racing calendar for the 2024-2025 season available on the FFN website. However, there is no information as to where it will take place. It is marked “pending” regarding its organization dates.

Same thing on the website dedicated to the competition itself, where only a home page appears on which it is written « Coming soon ! » for the 2025 edition.

Arnaud Péricard wanted to be reassuring by adding that he had all the same “believed to understand that the organizers would seek to relocate in Saint-Germain-en-Laye in the years to come.

A new meeting set up with the NOC?

However, if this were not to be the case, Arnaud Péricard announced that he would consider hosting, in association with the Cercle des nageurs de l’Ouest (CNO), “a meeting swimming or para-swimming.

If ultimately the Giant open remains in the royal city, the City will be able to devote the amount of subsidies it paid to the FFN for the organization of the first two editions. After releasing €20,000 in 2023, the municipality had invested 25 000 € in 2024.
