the essential
The 46-year-old Colomiers judo member, who works in the Pibrac-Mondonville and Saint-Simon clubs, was titled at the beginning of November in the M4 – 100 kg category.
“I had already taken part in this competition in 2016. It took place in Miami and I finished in 7th place.” Eight years later, in Las Vegas, once again in the -100 kg category, Grégory Causero hit the jackpot with the world title in the M4 category. “It was again a personal challenge with all the preparation that this implies. I thank again my wife, my children and all my work partners who allowed me to get there,” explains the 46-year-old fighter, licensed in Colomiers judo.
His stay in Nevada lasted around ten days. “In total, there were five of us from Columérins who made the trip. We had a second gold medal, a bronze medal, a 5th place and a 7th place. For my part, I had five fights for five victories. We had to show rigor and patience on arrival, it was obviously a great satisfaction,” summarizes this judo teacher, who works within the Pibrac-Mondonville and Saint-Simon clubs.
“Grégory arrived with us in 2001. So his loyalty no longer needs to be proven. He is a pillar of the club as a sporting referent. His world title makes us proud”, underlines Florence Merville, president of JC Pibrac-Mondonville . “He passes on his passion for judo to our members, all generations combined. But for our young people, being able to exchange with him is also the school of life,” confides Hervé Bonnefous for Saint-Simon judo. “Grégory is totally in line with the values that we defend in the club. Moreover, this is the first time that we have a licensed world champion among veterans,” underlines Alexandre Saby, president of Colomiers judo.
Beginnings at 4 years old in Gabon
In his career, Grégory Causero discovered judo at the age of 4, in Gabon. “At 9 years old, when I returned to France, I went to the JC Tarbais, then to the Dojo Lourdais. Subsequently, I went through the Pôle Espoir and the Pôle France, on the branches of Bordeaux, Toulouse and Marseille. teaching judo, notably via my State Certificate, I believe that I have always had that in me”, rewinds the Haut-Garonnais who, outside of judo, works in a renovation company.
What about 2025? His answer bursts out: “My main project would be to be able to travel to Japan”. Fingers crossed.
