The Cafés Legal company located in Le Havre (Seine-Maritime) is placed in compulsory liquidation by the commercial court, France Bleu Normandie reported on Tuesday, December 17. The cessation of production takes effect immediately, as does the dismissal of the 110 employees of the company established in the city for 170 years.

After being bought and then resold by businessman Michel Ohayon in 2022, the company was placed in receivership on October 8, with a view to a new takeover. The judicial liquidation decision therefore comes at the end of this open recovery period. “in the hope of finding a lasting solution for the recovery of the company”indicate Cafés Legal in a press release.

During the fall, activity was maintained for the 110 employees of the factory located on the heights of Le Havre. “Despite the company’s strong activity in recent months, in a difficult period marked by a historic rise in coffee prices, no takeover solution was able to succeed. The court ruled that the only takeover offer submitted did not present no sufficient guarantees to ensure the sustainability of this company”. At the beginning of December 2024, the region guaranteed the deposit of one million euros requested by the Paris commercial court so that the historic Le Havre factory could continue its activity.

The management, “who worked tirelessly to find a buyer”regrets this conclusion and “would like to warmly thank the employees, partners, consumers and customers who have supported Cafés Legal throughout its journey”. A judicial liquidator will supervise the procedure until its conclusion and will ensure that the rights of employees and creditors are respected.
