“Something terrible is happening in the sky: rats are eating the Moon! Only one hero can save the Earth, a bold and fearsome beast, a reckless and pizza-loving hero. And this hero is… a cat! » This story is Mac Barnett and Shawn Harris, a Californian author and illustrator who imagined it and illustrated it in their album “The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza”, published by Albin Michel .
With 32% of the votes of a very young jury
And this absurd story caught the eye of a jury made up of 257 readers, aged 8 to 11, students in CE2 to CM2 classes in seven schools in Saint-Malo. Between the five titles competing for the Ville de Saint-Malo Youth BD Prize, it was the album by Mac Barnett and Shawn Harris which came in first with 32% of the votes.
These two authors grew up and still live today in California. Their children’s album “A Polar Bear in the Snow” (ed. Candlewick, 2020) received numerous awards in the United States. Mac Barnett has also written several children’s albums translated in France, including “Parce que” (ed. Little Urban, 2019), “Triangle, Carré et Cercle” (ed. École des Loisirs, 2018-2019) and “Extra-doux » (ed. Milan, 2014).
He and his sidekick Shawn Harris will receive a prize of €1,200.
